NJ Permit Test in Spanish: Written, Oral and the Spanish Driver Manual

How the New Jersey knowledge test works in Spanish: MVC's Spanish written and oral tests, the Spanish Driver Manual, what to bring, and how to study in Spanish without confusing practice with the official exam.

NJ MVC Quiz Team

Can you take the NJ knowledge test in Spanish?

Yes. The MVC knowledge-test page, checked October 7, 2026, lists Spanish among the languages in which the written test is offered. It also says oral tests are offered in English and Spanish. The page lists the same written languages for everyone: English, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Spanish, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Hindi, Albanian and Turkish.

Written and oral are different formats. If reading a written test in any language is difficult for you, ask MVC about the oral option at your appointment rather than assuming one will be available in a language not on MVC's oral list.

Step by step: from study to test day

  1. Study from the official manual. MVC says you can prepare by reading the NJ Driver Manual. Its manuals page lists a Spanish edition (marked revised 09/26) next to the English one. Use the edition current on that page.
  2. Go to a driver testing center with your 6 Points of ID and purchase an examination permit, as MVC describes on the knowledge-test page.
  3. Schedule the knowledge test through MVC's appointment system after you have purchased the examination permit.
  4. Say which language you need when you book and at the center. Confirm whether you want the written test in Spanish or the oral test.
  5. Take the test. Language does not change the standard: the test content and passing requirement come from MVC. See how scoring works.

Practicing in Spanish on this site

This site offers a Spanish practice mode at /es. It is a study aid: the questions are our own practice questions, translated for learning, and results here are not MVC exam results. English remains the reference version, and if a translation of a question is unavailable the practice falls back to the English text. Driving signs in New Jersey are in English, so keep learning the English words that appear on signs while you study in Spanish.

A sensible routine: read a manual chapter in Spanish, answer practice questions in Spanish, then review the ones you missed in English too, so the wording on signs and in the official questions is familiar.

What this page does not cover

  • Other languages and interpreters. If your language is not on MVC's list, see knowledge-test languages and MVC interpreter options.
  • CDL. MVC lists CDL knowledge tests in English and Spanish and the Hazmat endorsement test in English only; follow MVC's CDL instructions.
  • Fees, ID rules and appointment availability. These change; confirm them with MVC.

What to study first

If you are short on time, start with the numbers that recur in questions (see numbers to memorize) and the questions people miss most (see the hardest questions). For an overall plan, use the knowledge-test study guide.

Sources and as-of dates

MVC's pages can change. Confirm current language options with MVC before relying on them.
