Find an NJ MVC knowledge-test location
Choose your service in the official MVC appointment system, then select an available licensing center. A center that handles vehicle registration or only REAL ID may not offer your test.
Official sources checked September 13, 2026. Appointments, closures, and services can change.
Before you visit
- Choose the right transaction. First-time permits and knowledge tests require appointments. MVC says you may be able to take the test at your permit appointment if testing is available.
- If you already have a permit, follow the knowledge-test booking instructions. The confirmation identifies the location and time you must attend.
- Prepare the documents in the official 6 Points of ID checklist, plus your permit and appointment information when applicable.
- Check the appointment confirmation and MVC notices before leaving. General licensing-center hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–3 p.m.; they do not guarantee an available test slot.
